Honest: in July 2026 we sell no eSIM for Somalia or Eritrea. Somali cities have 4G (Hormuud, Somtel), but Eritrea has only Eritel with no reliable eSIM. Best today is a local SIM on arrival — we'll write the day an honest price exists.
Most pages you find for 'eSIM Somalia' or 'eSIM Eritrea' sell you something anyway — often a regional Africa eSIM that barely connects when you land. We do the opposite. We list both countries, but marked 'coming' with no buy button, because the wholesale prices and coverage we've seen so far don't back what we'd have to promise. We'd rather sell nothing than an eSIM that fails you in Mogadishu or Asmara.
The Somali operators are Hormuud, Somtel and Golis. In Mogadishu, Hargeisa and the bigger cities, 4G coverage is genuinely good — mobile money (EVC/Zaad) is everyday life and the network gets heavy local use. In rural areas and between cities it thins out, but that's true for every operator, not just eSIMs. Practical: pick up a local SIM in a shop once you arrive (cheap, ID may be required), and download offline maps and important files before leaving town.
Eritrea is harder, and we won't pretend otherwise. Eritel is the only operator, mobile data is limited and slow in many places, and none of our wholesalers currently offer an eSIM that works reliably there. Expect a traveller to buy an Eritel SIM locally and still get thin connectivity outside Asmara. Plan as if you're offline much of the time: download what you need in advance, and don't count on a video call home every evening.
Until we can sell with a clear conscience: keep your home SIM on but turn data roaming OFF (outside the EU it's expensive per day), buy a local SIM on the ground for data, and run calls over WhatsApp so family reaches you without a per-minute charge.
